The Mike Laga Youth Baseball Association announces that the Sandy Koufax team tryout will be held on Saturday, March 27th at Ryan Road School from 1:00-3:00PM. Northampton Junior League and Sandy Koufax Tryout

The Northampton Junior League tryout will be held on Saturday March 20th, 8:30AM-noon in Smith College's gym. MLYB coaches and board members will be at this tryout, evaluating players for our Sandy Koufax team.

Mickey Mantle Tryouts

The Mike Laga Youth Baseball Association announces tryouts for the Northampton Blue Devils, Mickey Mantle A Division team and the Northampton Blue Demons, Mickey Mantle B Division team. Tryouts will be held on Sunday, May 3, 2009 and Saturday, May 9 from 2-4 p.m. at Northampton High School. Mickey Mantle baseball is for youth aged 15-16 (will not turn 17 until after May 1). Player Fee Increase

The Mike Laga Youth Baseball Association announces that this year’s player fee will be $125.00. This is the first fee increase since the organization’s inception in 2002. We regret having to raise fees, but must do so in order to keep pace with the rising costs of running four baseball teams. As always, no one will be refused a spot on a team due to an inability to pay the fee.

February 6, 2009: Coaches Announced for 2009 Season

We are proud to announce our coaches for the 2009 season. Tim Molaghan will return as head coach of the Northampton Blue Sox, our Sandy Koufax team. David Hoose, John Lenkowski and Bob Bak will return for another season as coaches of the Northampton Blue Devils, Mickey Mantle A team. The always popular Lance Lashway returns for another season at the helm of the Northampton Blue Demons, Mickey Mantle B team. The head coaching slot for our new Connie Mack team, the Northampton Blue Streak, remains open for the time being.

Eligibility Change:The Board of Directors of Mike Laga Youth Baseball has voted to amend our eligibility requirements. Previously, our policy was that our programs were open to youth who live in Northampton or attend Northampton public schools. We have expanded eligibility to include youth from adjacent communities who played Little League or Cal Ripken Baseball in Northampton during the preceding year.

January 21, 2009

The Board of Directors has voted to add a Connie Mack Team to the Mike Laga Youth Baseball program. The Connie Mack team will compete in the Pioneer Valley Youth Baseball League. Connie Mack Baseball is for 17-18 year olds. Criteria for inclusion will be the same as for our Mickey Mantle teams, although given the smaller number of interested players at this age, it is more likley that interested players from adjacent communities may have an opportunity to play. More on this exciting new development to come.

New Blue Sox coach announced

The Board of Directors of Mike Laga Youth Baseball is very proud to announce that Tim Molaghan will coach the 2008 edition of the Northampton Blue Sox, Sandy Koufax team. Tim is an experienced coach with a terrific track record in the Northampton Junior League and the Northampton Little League, where his Elks team won an unprecedented six consecutive A division championships. Tim will be selecting assistant coaches as the season draws near.

Age Eligibility Change

Starting in 2006 The Northampton Blue Sox, our NEYSA Sandy Koufax division team will be open to players who are 13 and 14 years old who will not turn 15 until after May 1, 2006. This is a change from the August 1 cutoff of previous years. Likewise, our Mickey Mantle teams will be open to players who are 15 and 16 years old who will not turn 17 until after May 1, 2006.
